Peru's decision last week to redraw their maritime boundary with neighboring Chile sparked a diplomatic dispute between the two Andean countries that could seriously hamper efforts to develop a bilateral gas trade exchange between the two countries.

On Thursday, the Peruvian Congress unanimously passed a law to shift its Pacific Ocean boundary with southern neighbor Chile using a diagonal line, replacing a horizontal line that was originally drawn to mark the border between the two countries back in 1954.
