It's been an institution on children's telly for nearly 17 years, but it was announced today that Byker Grove is to be axed. Entertainment Editor Gordon Barr has the details
It's the end of the Grove for one of children's TV's most popular and enduring series. After nearly 17 years, 18 series and 344 episodes, Byker Grove is set to close its doors forever.
The next series, to be screened from September will be the last.
But it's not all bad news - bosses at the Beeb are planning to launch a new children's TV series ...
