GATT supports Mexico's reckless import of tuna from the US, which has created doubts about GATT's intentions regarding ecological conservation. The completion of the Uruguay Round in 1993 may pose a further threat, as GATT has been given charge of managing environmentally-sensitive issues such as agriculture. The functioning of the GATT and other environmental treaties in mutual consonance may be possible by the inclusion of environmental regulations in GATT itself.
