Discovery of Uranium

The first step in the direction of nuclear energy development was perhaps the discovery of Uranium about 200 years ago! This discovery is attributed to Martin Heinrich Klaproth, an outstanding analytical chemist from Germany in 1789. Towards the end of 1860 a Russian Scientist, D.I. Mendeleev placed uranium at the end of his periodic table and assigned its atomic weight as 240. Mendeleev's famous quote regarding the importance of uranium is being reproduced here:
