The sluggish economy has spuffed stiff competition among fast food operators - pushing for higher sales with price wars, "value meal" discounts, coupon promotions, and expanded menus. Many are making inroads to new markets with smaller mobile units and supermarket and school outlets. And, fast food companies are continuing to expand into foreign countries.
