When Professor Robert Fogel, who is best known for his controversial research on the economic benefits of slavery, learned that he had won this year's Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Science, the first thing he did was thank his wife.
"Her support and help has been indispensable in everything I have done", said Fogel, a economics professor at the University of Chicago of his wife, Enid. The interracial couple have been married for 44 years and are no strangers to controversy.
