Apr. 27--The southern branch of the Moravian Church has apologized for its historic participation in slavery, and the church's Bethlehem-based northern branch, which also included slave owners, might soon do the same.

Leaders of the 20,000-member Southern Province unanimously approved a resolution including the apology last week in Winston-Salem, N.C., and racial issues are just as much a concern in the north, said the Rev. David Wickmann, president of the Northern Province.
