Apr. 27--TULSA -- Leaders of the Five Civilized Tribes gathered near a historic oak tree Wednesday to remind non-Indian Oklahomans their people were here first and are here still.
The ceremony near the Muscogee (Creek) Nation's Council Oak Tree offered an Indian point of view about next year's Oklahoma Centennial celebration, as leaders of the first tribes removed to what was then Indian Territory asked to be recognized as partners in building the state.
