En 1906 el pintor alemán Max Ernst Koop, entonces de 15 años de edad, quedó profundamente afectado por la muerte de su loro, justo la noche en que nació su hermana menor. A partir de ese momento no distinguía muy bien entre las aves y las personas y terminó por poblar sus cuadros con un fantasmagórico personaje (de facciones similares a las de Ernst) llamado Loplop, cruza de pájaro y humano, encargado, según afirmaba, de presentar sus pinturas al mundo.
