Apr. 9--TAHLEQUAH -- Picking wild onions is a respectable pastime in Cherokee County. As soon as the temperature climbs and a good rain descends, locals begin scanning for the slender green shoots poking through the ground. A perennial favorite, the wild onion is a favored delicacy with a season of about six weeks, tops. But it is about more than putting a fork to eggs peppered with the fragrant root, locals say.
