A ground data system that helps track unmanned spacecraft is one of the responsibilities of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, Calif. "It helps with command processing, monitors the spacecraft and also includes tools for analysis, and image and photo processing," said Dorothy Huffman, configuration management manager in JPL's Multimission Operations Systems Office. The system has more than 1 million lines of code, she said.
