Born in December of 1972 in the Keystone State, the tresero/cuatrista/guitarist/composer/arranger/bandleader/educator Benjamin Lapidus has taken the Cuban tres guitar to a higher artistic plateau since 1996, when he organized in New York the cutting-edge Latin jazz group Sonido Isleño.
The following conversation was recently conducted with the abovementioned neochangüisero string phenomenon, whose group has deviated from the standard notion of Latin jazz, according to his own words, "by putting jazz into the folklore, instead of the other way around."
