The business of wine merchandising isn't a modern invention. The famous Bordeaux classification of 1855 was simply an opportunity to place Bordeaux chateaux in front of the world's tourists and potential buyers. They were grouped in price categories for convenience and those price categories form the basis for perceived quality today: Is it a coveted First Growth or a lowly Fifth Growth?
