Origin of the Andaman Islanders have always been associated by the indegenous population to Wot-a-emi, a place where the first islander was supposed to have been created. Geographically, Wot-a-emi lies at the tip of Baratang Island. Archaeological investigations on different sites in the Andaman Islands have revealed several shell middens and limestone caves which disprove the Wot-a-emi myth and suggest that colonization took place almost simultaneously in several islands.
