The 1.6% decline in personal income in the US is mostly due to early payment of yearend bonuses, shifting income from 1st qtr 1993 to 4th qtr 1992. Excluding the early payments effect, personal income would have increased 1.5% in 1st qtr 1993. The 11 fastest growing states in terms of personal income grew by 6.1 to 8.4% during the recovery (1991-93) and accounted for over 10% of personal income in the US In the 11 slowest growing states, personal income increased by 2.5% to 4.0% and accounted for 40% of personal income.
