Mar. 24--Rough and heavy pinkish and grey alabaster stones, all of different shapes and sizes, were placed in front of students at a recent alabaster carving workshop.

Cheyenne sculptor Gail Jones Sundell directed the workshop recently at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum during its Western Spirit Art Show and Sale.

Sundell has carved alabaster for more than 30 years.

She carves American Indians because her father grew up on a Cheyenne/Arapaho reservation in Oklahoma and he greatly influenced her art. Also, her family owns Colorado ...
