Faced with a sloping garden, designers rub their hands in glee.

However, homeowners see nothing but problems, which is a shame as this sort of plot offers a whole host of exciting design prospects.

If you have a slope, you will need to use some kind of terracing, which is not a new idea - think Hanging Gardens of Babylon.
