Clutching the concertina instrument near his ear, David H.B. Drake began stretching it, then finally compressing it.

Back and forth, the instrument sounded like it was sucking in air.

"Does this sound like somebody breathing, like Darth Vader?" he asked the crowded room of eager students at Wesley Elementary School in Addison.

"Yeah," they all said, looking around at each other with sheepish grins.

Then Drake put the concertina to use, as he sang, "Where are you bound?" a folk song about the Great Lakes.
