Archaeological excavations in province of Ciudad Real in La Mancha, Spain began in 1973 and revealed an abundance of large, fortified Bronze Age settlements. The results of the studies showed that the Mancha Bronze Age had similar characteristics to the Bronze Valenciano and Argaric cultures. This was exemplified by the presence of individualized burial rites and construction of defensive settlement sites. The Mancha Bronze Age settlements were classified into two: 'motillas and morras' and 'castillejos'.
