Alex Sanmark ('The Princess in the Tower', February 2006) suggests that Philip II's suspicion that Richard I was planning to have him killed by the Assassins of Syria was a symptom of 'a mental disorder',

presumably paranoia. However, at the time, such fears appeared less far-fetched.
