The Government is set to double the contributions it makes to Child Trust Funds, it announced yesterday.

Chancellor Gordon Brown said children born on or after September 1, 2002, would receive an additional pounds 250 from the Government when they are seven years old, with children from less-well-off families getting pounds 500.
