Gilding is an ancient art that involves the thin application of real or imitation gold to a surface. Gilding is applicable to a variety of materials such as wood, ivory, metal, paper, leather, glass and fabrics. A typical gilding process involves a ten-step gold leaf application process and a six-step bronze powder application process. Gilding can be used for both traditional and contemporary furnishing styles.
