Columbia County, Ga., attracts more jobs for eager work force.

Mar. 5--Judging by recently compiled job-forecast figures, Columbia County residents soon might have a shorter drive to work, the grocery store or the doctor's office.

Such a possibility is likely, officials say, as more retail, health care, manufacturing and wholesaling options become available in the county.

The study, compiled by county planners for the Augusta Regional Transportation Study, suggests much of the new employment will come from the increased migration of businesses and services to the county.
