Cartesian mirror/quixotic web: toward a narrativity of desire.

The metaphor of the mind as the great mirror, which has given direction to the work of many post-Cartesian theorists, is examined. Of specific concern is its ramifications for theories of art as a reflection of nature. The possibility of determining another basis for connections through the development of an alternative understanding of how desire operates and through the generation of a different metaphor to represent that operation is explored. The narrative model, which emanated from this metaphor, is explained.
