Marco Palmezzano occupies an interesting position in the history of the Italian renaissance. Born in Forli in 1459 and active as a painter by the mid-1480s, his 50-year career (he died in 1539) spanned a period of rapid stylistic change and he was demonstrably interested in the innovations of his fifteenth-century contemporaries.
