The reunification of Germany brought with it problems for the women's sector in the country. These problems are particularly apparent in the reforms undertaken by German universities soon after reunification. The reform of the country's university system led to a lesser number of women being hired by the universities for teaching positions. This development does not bode well for the future of women occupying academic positions in German universities.
