An examination of the key patterns and trends in the structure and intensity of final energy demand in five Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development nations from 1973 to 1988 is presented. Of special interest is the use of fuels and electricity to provide energy services to end users. Trends indicate significant increases in energy use in the absence of concerted policy action.
