The overthrow of the Provincial Government of Russia brought about a change in the perception of modern art and society. Publications promoting the ideological position of the government were established. These journals contained illustrations and photographs of prominent socialists or featured items of propaganda. Similarly, journals critical of the government's attitude toward art and cultural policy were also published. This included the Iskusstvo kommuny which made use of progressive art in the development of a new theory of 'production art' which suggested a fusion of art and industry.
