Scott Reiss: 1951-2005.(Obituary)

My husband, Scott Reiss was founding director of Hesperus, which started as a baroque group in 1979 but became known for its crossovers of early and traditional musics. He played recorders as if they were real instruments, not toys, as well as hammered dulcimer, Arabic drums, sordoune (a renaissance bassoon), and Irish whistle. His most recent solo CD, The Banshee is" Wail, was a fusion of medieval and Irish music with Glen Velez, Zan McLeod and myself. Scott died on December 14 2005 at the age of 54, a victim of bipolar disease.
