The blue-grey massif of Kashmir, rising north-eastwards towards the Karakorum range, lies astride the India-Himalaya tectonic plate boundary. The 7.6 magnitude event struck, just north of Muzaffarabad, on the morning of Saturday 8th October, 2005.
