New phone company to serve area.

Mar. 4--LENORA -- Some 5,400 telephone customers in 20 north-central Kansas communities soon will be served by a new phone company.
Lenora-based Rural Telephone Service Co. will purchase the local phone exchanges from Kansas City-based Sprint. The deal, announced Friday, is subject to regulatory approval, which is expected later this year.
Larry Sevier, chief executive officer of Rural Telephone and its subsidiary, Nex-Tech, said the purchase will be "a great thing" for the rural communities it affects.
