Aimed at students in the earth sciences as well as laboratory assistants and hydrologists, this textbook explains the basics of isotope hydrology. Following a theoretical introduction, the elements of the water cycle are treated successively. The material has been extracted from the first three volumes of the UNESCO/IAEA series titled Technical Document in Hydrology 39. Three appendices deal with water sampling, measurement techniques, and the chemistry of carbonic acid in water. Mook is emeritus professor of Isotope Physics at the U. of Groningen, the Netherlands.
