En particular, supone el peligro de extinción para los aborígenes diaguitas. Sin embargo, la concesión para explotar esta mina se le otorgó a la empresa canadiense Barrick, que cuenta entre sus accionistas al expresidente de Estados Unidos George Hebert Bush.
