Mar. 2--Michael MacDonald, chief executive officer of Saks Inc.'s Northern Department Store Group, will leave the company after the chain is sold to Bon-Ton Stores Inc. this month.

MacDonald, 54, told employees of his decision Wednesday.

Saks announced late last year it would sell the Northern Group stores to Bon-Ton, of York, Pa., for about $1.1 billion.
