It was 1975, and Alan Smith was 18 years old when he entered the world of pool plastering. Since then, he has made an indelible mark on the business. His company, Alan Smith Pool Plastering Inc. in Orange, Calif., boasts nearly 15,000 renovations, along with thousands of new pool plaster projects. An active member of the National Plasterers Council, he also chairs the research committee that set up the National Pool Industry Research Center. His personal experiments in plaster and chemistry have been major industry contributions.
