ANN ARBOR, Mich. -The historical significance of Daniel Horton's prodigious performance seemed forgotten, much like the cloud of controversy that once chased the Michigan star.

It seemed hard to fathom Tuesday, amid the euphoria of Horton's career-high 39 points and Michigan's 72-64 victory over Illinois, that almost exactly one year earlier Horton endured one of his darkest days.

It was Feb. 20, 2005, when Michigan announced Horton's season- ending suspension after his guilty plea to a domestic violence charge.
