While abdominal pain is a frequent complaint among patients presenting to emergency departments, most patients experience improvement of symptoms without specific treatment. To evaluate the natural history of "undifferentiated" abdominal pain and to identify clinical features in these patients, Lukens and colleagues conducted a follow-up study of patients seen in an emergency department for abdominal pain.
