US fisheries are plagued with problems related to vague scientific information that cause overcapitalization, financially and biologically ineffective fisheries and the making of dangerous choices, which will persist till fish stocks are depleted and result in social and financial disasters. The solution is to regulate access before overcapitalization, and to ensure a more comprehensive scientific database to assist fisheries management.
