A Jewish man berates his early neglect of the Midrash, and feels that he has lost something valuable by failing to delve into the mystery of this religious and literary masterpiece. He feels that the Midrash and the Bible must not be understood in isolation, and that it is up to each Jew to personalize this understanding. The Midrash stimulates thinking along the lines of death, knowledge, revolution, tragedy, materialism and beauty.
