FABLES ARE OFTEN READ to preschool children and are frequently included in basal reader series for grade school children. Collections of Aesop fables are continually found in print (e.g., translation by Gibbs, 2003, and translation by Temple & Temple, 1998), and writers frequently base new works of fiction on these enduring narratives (e.g., Willingham, 2002).
