How Marathon is using 3D laser scanning in its FPSO conversion.(SHIP CONVERSION)

Marathon Petroleum Company (Norway) is using 3D laser scanning in the conversion of the Multipurpose Shuttle Tanker (MST) Odin (now renamed Alvheim) to a Floating Production, Storage and Offloading vessel. Alvheim was received by Marathon from Statoil in January 2005. Built in 2001 by Izar (formerly Astilleros Espanoles), the ship has an overall length of 252m, 42m beam; it draws 15m and has a design deadweight of 85,300 tonnes. After conversion, the vessel will have a storage capacity of 560,000 barrels of oil.
