While the country is still struggling to lift itself from the lingering crisis the airline industry seems to have received an injection of fresh blood that boosts the emergence of a number of new air transport operators. In less than four year until 2002, there were at least 17 licenses (SIUP) issued for new airlines' although not all of them have used the licenses. Including six old operators the country had 17 airline companies in 2002.
