Reduced Instruction Set Computing (RISC) microprocessors were exciting when they were first introduced. They were faster, smaller and less expensive than Complex Instruction Set Computing (CISC) devices, and they soon achieved widespread popularity. More recently, RISC seemed to have settled into a slow and steady process of technological evolution.
