CORRECTION (ran 2/05/06): A Jan. 30 editorial discussing a new law relating to independent political candidates in Oregon could leave readers with a misunderstanding of the law's effects on voters who are not registered as members of a political party. The law bars party members who vote in party primaries from signing independent candidates' nominating petitions or participating in their nominating conventions. Unaffiliated voters, however, may vote in primary elections as before, casting votes in nonpartisan races and on ballot measures
