Keep 'em flying! (selection and maintenance of flagpoles and flags)(includes related article) (Facilities/Maintenance)

From: Plant Engineering | Date: February 18, 1993| Author: | Copyright information

Current flagpoles are made of aluminum, steel, stainless steel, copper or fiber glass materials, with flags usually in cotton, nylon or polyester. Flagpole maintenance begins with preserving the shaft finish with a method dependent on the flagpole material. Conventional halyard systems and their fittings require quarterly inspections for wear and must be replaced immediately to reduce replacement costs. Flagpole fittings for internal halyard systems also require regular checking and maintenance. Similarly, a damaged flag should be replaced with a spare, then trimmed and resewn.
