Editor's Introduction--William Aberhart became premier of Alberta in 1935 during the depths of the Great Depression. At that time he offered voters a "solution" to the economic woes of the province through a radical monetary system called "Social Credit."
Aberhart was born in Perth County, Ontario, and came to Calgary in 1910 to teach at Crescent Heights High School. A deeply religious man, he also was a lay teacher and became unofficial minister of Westbourue Baptist Church.
