Pres Bill Clinton explains that celebration of the Asian Pacific American Heritage Week was initiated by Rep Frank Horton, to recognize the contributions of Asian Pacific Americans to the American society. The transcontinental railroad was built largely by Chinese laborers, among other contributions. Despite cultural diversity, Asian Pacific Americans have shown the same commitment to strong families, community, education and hard work.
