More than 83 million tourists visited Prague in the year before Czechoslovakia divided into two countries. Increasing Western influence has caused concern about retaining the Czech cultural heritage, but the city retains its baroque charm. Attractions for the visitor include the 14th-century Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, St Vitus Cathedral and Petrin Hill. A system of subways and street-level trams provides efficient and inexpensive transport.
