A new nonlinear Schrodinger equation is obtained explicitly from the (fractal) Brownian motion of a massive particle with a complex-valued diffusion constant. Real-valued energy plane-wave solutions and solitons exist in the free particle case. One remarkable feature of this nonlinear Schrodinger equation based on a (fractal) Brownian motion model, over all the other nonlinear QM models, is that the quantummechanical energy functional coincides precisely with the field theory one. ...

On the consequences of behavioral adaptations in the cost-benefit analysis of road safety measures.
Journal of Risk and Insurance ; ABSTRACT It is sometimes argued that road safety measures or automobile safety standards fail to save lives because safer highways or safer cars induce more dangerous driving. A similar but less extreme view is that ignoring the behavioral adaptation of drivers would bias the cost-benefit analysis
Power politics and international labor standards.
International Advances in Economic Research ; Abstract This paper analyzes how a country's commitment to labor standards is affected by the international political power they possess. Powerful countries may be less committed to actual enforcement of certain labor standards since they are unlikely to face significant threats of international
A novel approach to model turbulence Part I: theoretical formulation.
Journal of the Alabama Academy of Science ; ABSTRACT This paper describes a novel unifying formulation of turbulence modeling via the optimal control theory. In this formulation, Reynolds stresses are considered control variables while the averaged velocities are considered state variables. The Reynolds stresses are selected to optimize a
Primary and secondary gas penetration during gas-assisted injection molding. Part I: formulation and modeling.
Polymer Engineering and Science ; INTRODUCTION Gas-assisted injection molding (GAIM) is an innovative process invented only 25 years ago (1) to produce plastic parts with hollow sections. In GAIM, gas is injected into a mold that has been partially filled with polymer called a short shot, either at the nozzle or from within the
Derivation of Maxwell's equations based on a continuum mechanical model of vacuum and a singularity model of electric charges.(Report)
Progress in Physics ; The main purpose of this paper is to seek a mechanical interpretation of electromagnetic phenomena. We suppose that vacuum is filled with a kind of continuously distributed material which may be called [OMEGA](1) substratum. Further, we speculate that the [OMEGA](1) substratum might behave like a
Heat transfer over rotor surface in a pre-swirl rotating-disc system.(Technical report)
International Journal of Dynamics of Fluids ; Abstract Pre-swirl is often used in the internal cooling-air systems of gas turbines to reduce the temperature of the cooling air relative to the rotating turbine blades. In a direct-transfer system, the air passes axially across the wheel-space from stationary pre-swirl nozzles to receiver holes
Computational prediction of PVC degradation during injection molding in a rectangular channel.
Polymer Engineering and Science ; INTRODUCTION One of the most common problems encountered when polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is not molded properly is the appearance of burn (degradation) marks. These burn marks are easily visible in materials that are translucent or of light coloration, usually varying in degree from yellow to brown,
Applying the finite--volume method for solving the convection--dispersion equation in radial coordinates.(Technical report)
International Journal of Petroleum Science and Technology ; Abstract The finite-control volume technique is used to solve the convection-dispersion equation in radial coordinates. In the dispersion model presented, the dispersion coefficient is dependent on both velocity and diffusion coefficient. The finite-control volume scheme is shown to have negligible
Yang-Mills field from quaternion space geometry, and its Klein-Gordon representation.
Progress in Physics ; Analysis of covariant derivatives of vectors in quaternion (Q-) spaces performed using Q-unit spinor-splitting technique and use of SL(2C)-invariance of quaternion multiplication reveals close connexion of Q-geometry objects and Yang-Mills (YM) field principle characteristics. In particular, it is
Inventory competition and incentives to back-order.
IIE Transactions ; 1. Introduction Recently one of the authors of this paper purchased a new Volkswagen Passat. Living in a small city, he was restricted to buying a car from one of two local Volkswagen dealers. Unfortunately, the first dealer he visited was out of stock on the sought-after Passat configuration, but
