Name change to honor adrenaline discoverer.

Jan. 6--TOKYO--Adrenaline, a hormone discovered by Jokichi Takamine (1854-1922), will be used as the official name of a medicine in Japan from April in recognition of the Japanese chemist.

The hormone extracted from adrenal glands has been known as epinephrine in Japan, as named by a U.S. scientist. But calls for recognition of Takamine's discovery have led the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry to change the hormone's name.

The ministry has decided to revise the Japanese Pharmacopoeia, which stipulates specifications and standards of medicine, to call the medicine ...
